Major Surgery
Ok, once again, if you a bit shy about girly-type complaints, then look away now as I am going to talk about periods….
For years and years I have had trouble with my periods as they have always been very painful. As I have got a bit older, they have become more so, to the point of them being debilitating for the time that I have them. I have, in the last couple of years, been in the foetal position on the coach during most of Moochy’s birthday and sat with a hot water bottle, completely not participating in Christmas or Boxing Day.
I have tried many things to improve the situation, including:
- Painkillers (several types)
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
- Muscle Relaxers
- DOPA Contraceptive Injection
- Merina Coil
- DNC
- Hysteroscopy
none of which improved the situation, in fact the Merina coil made it even worse!!! So after all this, my consultant, Moochy and I have all decided that I am going to have a hysterectomy in about a month’s time. I say this was a 3 person decision, as due to my age, my consultant was reluctant to proceed initially.
At 37, I am still of child bearing age, and if I do have Total Abodominal Hysterectomy, then I won’t be able to any more. Everyone was quite concerned that even though I have not even got the slightest desire to have children (and never have) – I might change my mind. Moochy and I have been together for 8 years this year and neither of us have even the slightest inclination to have kids, so, as this was irreversible, we just had to make sure the clinicians involved understood this. Luckily, Mr Griffith was very understanding and did listen to what I was saying, rather than shooing us away to wait for another 5 years. Somewhat delaying the inevitable.
So the date is provisinally set for the 13th July, which is 4 weeks away – so even though I am nervous of having a major operation, I am positive I have made the right decision. I think I will be off work for between 6-8 weeks, apparently listening to my body and doing a little more each day.
It is some thing I must find more information about, thank you for the post.
