Heating is Fixed!!! (Hopefully)

British Gas Van

British Gas Van

If I was a believer, I would SO be thanking god right about now… but I am not so I am just going to be grateful that our heating is fixed. I am very shy about saying that out loud, but the engineer came from British Gas this morning and after about an hour and a half, he had the whole thing working.

Now I can’t get too excited about this, as the last 2 engineers that came all had it working of a fashion before they left, so only time will tell.

So as of last Thursday, I had no central heating, toothache and a massive bid to write at work. As of today, the 2nd draft of the bid is written, I have a warm house and my toothache has disappeared. If it stays like this, I might have to call a start to the Christmas festivities….. *keeps fingers crossed*

80% hot

Saturday, 1st full day of the weekend, should be full of Christmas Shopping and chillaxing right? Well no.. not today. Thenewly hired heating engineers came to fix it all yesterday and again when they left it worked, but very soon we had cold radiators again. So they had to come back again today and really take the whole thing to bits.

Of course this house is 110 years old ad quite a few things have gone wrong with it this year. Dodgy pitched roof, leaking flat roof, new guttering, drains needed flushing and now the heating isn’t working. *sighs*

Anyway the new heating peeps were very good, very professional and did a great job. When they left we had full hots, so we went into St Helens to pick up Moochy’s parcel from the sorting office.  The trouble was, when we came back, all radiators were hot except the living room, which was STONE COLD. AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH. I could have cried.

I really couldn’t cope with getting the plumbers here for the 4th day running, so we have decided to leave it for the weekend and maybe text him tomorrow to come next week. I really hate having people in the house, it just stresses me out and I can’t relax, and whilst they are in the living room, I can’t even sit down anwwhere comfy. But it could be worse, at least some of the radiators are working – but then of course it could better, they could ALL be working and we could still have over £500 in our bank account…. I could swear, I really could, but I won’t….

To add insult to injury, mid-post I have just got up to go to the loo and the other radiators are also now cold, despite the heating being on….  Ok now it’s time for a swear…

Give me a break

Give me a break… please……. 8-O

So I mentioned last night that our central heating was playing up, and at 5:00am this morning, things got a whole lot worse. Firstly, the smoke alarm’s battery on the landing started to go and it started to make that horrible high pitched bleep. Fast Forward to Moochy balanced up a ladder at stupid o’clock in his dressing gown trying to turn it off.

You would think that would be it, but NOOOO, the smoke alarm stops bleeping and we hear a horrible vibratey humming noise and upon investigation into the airing cupboard, we find one of the boxes attached to the pipes in the central heating tank buzzing and not sounding too clever. :-) We could do no more than turn the whole thing off and jump back in bed. The trouble with that though was that we were both awake and there was zero chance of any more shut eye. In the end Moochy got up and took Peggy out a little earlier than normal and I just checked twitter and waited for my own rise and shine time.

We go to work knowing that we are going to have to get a central heating engineer to come out and look at the problemo. This doesn’t end well. Moochy tried 2 engineer, no joy, I tried one and he promised to call at 16:00. I finished work early and raced home – he didn’t show up. I then tried to call another 6 central heating engineers and eventually got through to a 24hr one who seems VERY reluctant to come out. We didn’t hold out much hope.

However, mid-post – he has just arrived…. let’s hope it’s not mega bucks.

But the other nightmare thing was that I bought an IP camera from eBay which would go onto Peggy’s blog so that we can view her during the day… would it work…. would it duck!!!!!! I tried, Moochy tried and let me tell you – I am at the moment, millimetres away from slinging the whole lot in the bin…. but I am going to take lots of deep breaths and just see if I can get it working tomorrow when I am in a better frame of mind.

Honestly, I feel like my whole year has been a bit rubbish… so could someone give me a break please… just a small chink of light…. please…..

p.s. Central Heating update… new pump needed… £160, hopefully should be fitted tomorrow night. phew.
